Supernatural Knight wrote:I watched the first season dub too but this was because I try to watch whatever has a dub in english. I didn't mind it actually and it wasn't the worst that I've ever heard. I do have the complaint that they couldn't do the freak outs effectively enough though, however I checked the subbed for a comparison on the ladder scene and it wasn't that great either.
So usually the subs freak outs are captivating but this one was only decent as that ladder scene was one of my only complaints about the voices. Lets just say I'm glad that since this series it would appear that the VA's have become better at voicing characters such as these.
There's a bullying scene comparison online too.
And Mion/Shion's English VA does an excellent job in this scene.
It's better than the Japanese.

Please don't misunderstand, I like the dub. Still I prefer the sub for this particular show.

Re: Higurashi Anime Discussion
well the dub is not really terrible. im guessing its rika's and rena's VA what the fanboys rage at. mion/shion's are great. keichi's VA is perfect for a character in his puberty stage.

Re: Higurashi Anime Discussion
I know my shit regarding this.
So I'll tell you the English VA's that they rage at:
- Rena's VA (I'll be honest, her VA is the Kristen Stewart of Anime)
- Rika's VA
- Satoko's VA (They think her voice doesn't suit her character)
- Keiichi's VA (They think his voice is too nasally)
- Takano's VA (They say she sounds stoned)
They can tolerate Mion/Shion's VA but she has her flaws too, and everyone else aswell.

I think that in most cases subtitles prove to make a much better animation/film experience.
I wouldn't ever bother watching Pan's Labyrinth in English.

Re: Higurashi Anime Discussion
Not necessarily.
It all depends on the acting.
Even the Japanese can have really terrible voices.

i loved the dubbed, i dont watch any subbed, i was kinda hopping the JUSTDUBS FORUMS was a place where people wouldn't ridicule the dubbing, or the people who watched dubs. i dont watch subbed shows, only on rare occasions do i do it
but i liked the dub version of this show, i also hope the new series(spinoff?) gets dubbed as well

Re: Higurashi Anime Discussion
from what i know i didn't think it was being dubbed but i could have missed some news somewhere and i still say i didn't mind the dubbed the only argument that i could really see was the keiichi nasally voice one but then again i rarely complain about voice actors at all in dubs or subs

Oh ho ho ho.
Someone wasn't paying attention to the Anime.
Yes, there is a second season, it answers all the questions you had during the first season.
It turns into more of a thriller than horror at this point, but it's still psychological.
Also, you'll be shocked at the plot twist in the second season.

Re: Higurashi Anime Discussion
yea the second season is really the bulk of the story and the reveals, the first season doesn't really progress the story very visibly but it does a bit after you know what is going on

The first season only answers questions from the first and second question arcs.

Re: Higurashi Anime Discussion
I saw some of the anime, but not the entire series. I know it takes place around 1983 in a small town.

I can't believe you didn't watch the second season...it really does have all the answers and the whole story. Not watching season two is like only watching the first half of Sherlock Holmes.

Note - found out why I have not seen second season - it is subbed. Scary enough dubbed.
