Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
~WELCOME RPer's~
This club if for people who like to Role Play. In this club you can discuss Role Playing topics, ideas, characters, and much more with other fellow RPer's. This is also a place where you can post your Role Playing thread for other fellow RPer's to join. We will have topics of the week which are listed in the spoiler below.
TOPIC OF THE WEEK
- Spoiler:
What is your favorite RP character and why?
This is for all the RPers to get into discussions on topics of the week. Give your opinion, suggestions, advice ect in this thread. This gives us all the op to talk amoungst each other about different topic i will come up with. I will edit this every sunday with a new topic to discuss.
Also if anyone can suggest topics to discuss feel free to suggest them.
if you can create a RP thread what would it be like?
This topic can go to any RPers or non RPers who have thought of creating an RP thread and have either done so or have considered doing so but havent yet cause they were unsure of what to do...well we are here to help and give you some pointers if you would like..post your ideas and how you would want your story to go and we can help you by giving opinions or advice if you would like ...or you can just post your ideas just because .....
RPer's
if you decided to create a RP what would you name it and what would it be like would you have people with certain abilities, or would you create one that is more realistic? and describe how you would have it . would it be one that has a story line or one you would allow RPers to roam freely
None RPers
if you decided to get into RPing and decided to create a RP what would you name it and what would it be like would you have people with certain abilities, or would you create one that is more realistic? and describe how you would have it . would it be one that has a story line or one you would allow RPers to roam freely ....
next weeks topic starting sunday "if you created an RP what would it be like?"

Role Playing allows you to be creative and tell a story with others, it also allows you to escape reality and allow you to open up your imagination to a whole new world of magic, creatures, and people. Role Playing is all in your imagination. The bigger the imagination the better the story you create. Anyone can Role Play whether you decide you want to be a survivor in a zombie apocalypse, or join others in a quest around a world using magical abilities, battling demons and creatures.
A person can play one character or multiple characters depending how you want to challenge yourself. You can be on one RP thread or multiples depending on what you choose. This club is for RPers to discuss topics and ideas with one another and help others get to know their fellow RPers more.
~anyone can discuss topics or share their ideas in here whether you are a member or not. for those to receive a badge and become a member is listed below under the image
~ANYONE CAN JOIN IN AT ANY TIME~
Anyone can come into a thread at any time, no matter how far the plot is, as long as the thread isnt full. Anyone can do a simple recap as to what has happened. All you have to do is post an OOT (and for those that dont know what oot means- Out Of Topic or Off Of Topic) in the thread or ask the Mod of the thread (aka the thread maker) or Co-Mod or the person who has been given the duty of doing the recaps send either of them a VM or PM if a Mod of the thread cant they will tell you who to ask or request the person responsible for the recaps to fill you in.
Some thread have included spoiler in the 1st page you can click on to read the events that have happen the day before. This helps others to follow along if say they were absent for a day. If the mod is on or others that are posting in the thread dont be afraid to asks them for a fill in someone is usually willing to help out.
I have divided the RP's intoBASIC, MODERN, and ADVANCED. Basic and Modern RP's are running in this site Advanced it running in the TBRP site for info please feel free to contact me
BASIC RP's: are one's that are easy to follow since there really isnt any story plot, and you can use simple text base. You can come in at anytime and do what you want as long as its within the guidelines of the rules provided in each thread. The basics are more for new RPers to get used to Text Based Role Playing
ex of simple base:
action:
*sarah walks in and sit on chair eating a cookie**
talking:
"this cookie taste very good"
LIST OF BASIC RP's
~FAMILY CREATIONS 4TH EDITION~
http://justdubsrefuge.omgforum.net/t326-family-creation-4th-edition
MODERN RP's: are ones that are also easy to follow plots, but have more text based, detailed and more advanced then basic. Usually these have a story line to follow but you can come in and start at anytime and either solo RP or join in with a group.
action:
after walking for several miles in the pouring rain looking for a hotel to sleep for the night, since his car broke down.
john finally came across a small motel that seemed to be out in the middle of no where but he was glad finally find
a place for the night. upon entering he spoke to the inkeeper
"good evening i was wondering if i could have a room for the night"
LIST OF MODERN RP'S
- Spoiler:
- ~DEAD WINTER~
ADVANCED: these are far more text based, depending on the person typing. These can carry one main plot that everyone follows or several sub-plots that others create. Most of these you can join in at any time after speaking with the creator to find out where everyone is in the plot. These RP's can go very fast at times or can slow down depending where they are with their plots and subplots. Most of the advanced contain a bit of reading at times. But you can always ask someone for a fill in
The advanced RP's, we have located in the TBRP forum the link is provided in the "Roleplaying" section under thread TBRP for those who would like to join
- Spoiler:

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
To current and future RPers... The RP club is currently set up on its own forumotion site here:
LINK: http://tbrp.forumotion.co.uk/
The reason we are currently working off site from the refuge is that TBRP was set up at a similar time before we knew about the refuge and we had already transferred the RPs over to TBRP. We will be using this for the time being as it means we have a semi-permanent location that can be linked to the forums instead of being transferred every time. Once a permanent location is set up or it is decided otherwise we will most likely move. This is also posted in the Roleplaying thread under TBRP.
Thanks
your RP club President

ps we will continue to do discussions ect here in the rp club i will be posting a new 'discussion of the week' every sunday

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
A rule of thumb to remember when posting in an RP is to keep your posts open-ended (unless you're getting off or something). You can ask a question (preferably one that the answer isn't simply yes or no) or make a statement or movement that you know someone else might respond to.
But please do not force someone into something or give them a limited amount of responses (for example: locking someone in a room where they have to fight). And please don't try to push an action onto some one by continuously setting up the same situation or hinting too hard how you want the scene to play out (some poeple get a little uncomfortable).
A good strategy would be to think of an action and go halfway through it and see how others react (you don't have to get too carried away, but leave room for someone to stop you or comment on what you're doing). When in a conversation, try not to end a post with your character stating something; try to have them ask something or do something (that way the conversation doesn't just end).
This will help the RP flow a little better without so much stop-and-go. I hope that helped.

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
Large Scale Battles:
DO: Make it eventful and a what would be a challenge to your characters. Also the standard grade enemies should be taken as they are for, In most RPs here I have seen the standard grunts that are fought are completely easy, almost as if the characters are slicing cardboard figurines with steel swords.
DONT: Make your character come out without a scratch and or unchanged from before the battle.

I would say in general yes, but as with anything, there are some RARE exceptions in which the enemy is much much much weaker than you. But I do agree with your points and that helps keep things interesting as well as placing value on having healer characters

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
DO's:
Make sure you stick with your character's back story/weaknesses. Nothing is more annoying than a character who's stated weakness stops being their weakness, and their back story being contradicted by their actions later on.
Make sure your story makes sense. Subplots are OK, but when the main story goes off on a tangent, people may get pretty annoyed.
DON'T's:
Don't God mode or Metagame. i.e. don't make an invincible character that can destroy everything effortlessly, and don't use information, that your character shouldn't know, to your advantage.
Don't Bunny. Don't force anything, attack or otherwise, on a character, especially if they do not want to.

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
DO's
-have fun and enjoy yourself
-create subplots if you want to most thread creator are ok with it just make sure to ask first (RPing is for you to be creative and use your imagination)
-when you are heading off for the night be sure to make it to where the person you are RPing with can continue (some even say to puppet them, meaning say the character is with you)
- have discussions with other characters
-get in on the battles
-inform others of upcoming plots, you dont have to give the deatails just post an OOT (out of topic) saying you have a plot you want to play and if only certain people are to be involved let the others know, or if everyone is to be involved let them know that as well
DONT'S
-land hit on people unless you have discussed that with the persons character
-expect people to create your characters for you (you play your own character how you want to therefore create your own info or backstory ect, unless you have a plot with another member to help create it)
-dont create others backstory for them unless discussed- sometimes people want their character to be a certain way and creating someones backstory can throw their entire plan for that character out....you can bring something up along the lines of
**back when i was a child i met a girl, we were really close friends for soo many years and i lost touch with her, i cant remember her name but.....
allow them to decide if they want to be that person or not.
-force people in a situation they cant get out of
-create invisible characters- ie characters to where no matter how you hit them they either heal or dont take any damage (a lot of people dont like this)
-jump into another's subplot without asking- sometimes people have a plot they want to play out with another character or have a plan and dont want interference from other characters.
-dont always play the hero or think another character isnt able to defend themselves- this can annoy a person when they want to get in the battle
ie: A lion jumped out at karen. karen readies her dagger.
fred jumps in front of her blocking the lion from attacking her getting bit in the process
^
it is ok from time to time to play the 'hero' but there are also times where you need to let the character fend for themselves as well, give them a chance to play out the plot, dont always assume they need to be saved
-dont constantly block strikes to other characters, give them the opportunity to react[
ie: the demon placed his hand on the tiara which started blocking of her sources to her power
micheal come in and knocks the demon back and heals tiara
^
allow the person playing tiara to react to the attack, before jumping in and completely taking it away, this could have been a plot that was discussed between the persons playing the characters..this goes with dont assume - wait and see how it plays out then go from there..give ther person a chance to react with their own character
-Dont randomly bring in a character to battle someone persistently- meaning creating a character, that when its name is mentioned... **poof** appears "i heard you call me and now you must face my wrath" and next thing you know you into a battle
^
ok this can get annoying at times especially when it is happening constantly..if the plot has been discussed and agreed upon between character then by all means do it
-also when informed of a future plot and you want in on it, dont have your character leave the area that the plot is to take place and then get on the person who created the plot for you not being involved, it is your fault for leaving in the 1st place, and most players will not go after you, they will assume you dont want to take part in the plot and leave your character alone.
as i ALWAYS tell everyone "communication is key"
communicate with one another, come up with plot and ideas...discuss how you want a battle to take place or how you want a plot to play out..discuss battle tactics..or ask if you can land a hit on someone..if you do a group battle or plot but defiantly inform others there will be a plot and give them some information not detailed info just a brief example how you want things to be played out...tell them if the character it to be killed or if you want the character to be badly beaten so that he/she can later come back for revenge ect.
-have fun and enjoy yourself
-create subplots if you want to most thread creator are ok with it just make sure to ask first (RPing is for you to be creative and use your imagination)

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
I believe RP are an excellent way to vent creativity and build and inspire ideas for writing. It brings half-ideas and lost characters together into one world. It promotes clear descriptions and fluid thoughts necessary for story writing without the stress of self-criticism. Higher level writers provide examples for the less capable, and the creative but not-so-expressive artists of language will learn the words they always needed.
Friends come together to show off their innermost personas to each other and become closer. People come together in a masquerade of words and learn more about people than they would if they met them on similar terms out in the real world.
RPs give you the chance to start over in a new world. It invites you to escape the problems of the real world, if only for a moment. It gives you the chance to live a life you always wanted; to recreate yourself, your friends, or family into a more perfect world that you help create.
I don't know about you guys, but I love to RP.

I think and feel that TBRP is a worthwhile thing to participate in. It (atleast for me) gives reason to think about a variety of things depending on the RP. Although I've not really participated in any of the TBRPs started within JD and the Refuge I would like to and have wanted to, but I manage to not do so lol. As soon as I'm sidetracked by one thing I seem to be distracted by another. TBRP also gives me some level of point and focus with the random thought that comes to mind on a regular basis, so overtime I'm more focused which should be a good thing, but I'm yet to really know. Overall I'm saying that I find TBRP to be one driving force that gives me reason to stress, desire, think, and move while without it I'd be less likely to do much with my life as I am way too easy to get comfortable.
As for TBRP being worth using overall I say that it's a good tool in idea and thought creation/building that allows users to express not just their creativity, but their interests, reasoning, and driving forces so that it may spread to others that participate allowing whole networks of people to further mature their traits in the directions that attract them. Indirectly, TBRP can be a fairly influential thing in both that of the great and mundane.

I think TBRP is a great creative outlet (though I have ZERO creativity lol). It's sort of like great, fully interactive storytelling. And... Wow... that's all I've got. sigh... ( _-_ )
Yea. Basically TBRP is a really great thing. It's a great way to express creativity and have fun with other people.

Re: Role Playing Club (TBRP- text based roleplaying)
I think that role playing is a great exercise for writers and people with creative minds. it allows you to create a character and you have to think about what to do based on what the others do. In writing you come to a point where you get a block and you just can't get around and it gets annoying. With RPing you don't have to write whole pages or chapters ( unless your planning out a plot) and your planning off of what the others do. It makes you think fast in a limited amount of time and after a while your mind gets used to how fast you have to come up with things and it loosely plans things ahead of time. sometimes you even come up with an idea that can go one of five ways, depending on everyone else's actions. Critical thinking is used a lot in RPing and can be useful in the real world. From school to your job and in your daily life, critical thinking is important in huge projects as well as deciding on whats for dinner.

As has already been said I think RPing is great for creativity. it encourages it and helps people to get better at both RPing and creative writing in general. It also provides an escape from reality that I am sure many of us need.
