Newbie Sharing and feedback
so, i use GIMP, and in recent daring attemps iv tried to make some sigs, and avis and the sort, but, i lack resources, the rescorces section helped a bit, but im looking for...word definitions, like, whats a PSD? how do you make a render? things like that
wheres a good pack i can download alot of things i can use to get started.
what are good tools to use in gimp? and how should i use them?
i have no education in these things but im quite interested in learning at my own pace, i used to use gimp just for resizing gifs, now im using layers and i figured out how to add an alpha channel, and stuff like that
this is my only serious creation so far, but was i was doing it i became more and more interested, i also made someone on here's Sig, but i cant remember their name
i really appreciate any help you can give me, try not to use big words

i was thinking of taking a clip, although that is cool, and i might use that
this is one i made with another site, although when it originally came out, it was reiculusly slow, even on max speed (100ms/frame) i had to delete 1/3 of the frames to get it to this speed, granted, it still flows, but it has anugly watermark(just one does?), i also didnt get to choose the size of the image, and scaling it makes it look wierd. granted, doing it this way, was very frustrating as the time frame it game me was like....3secs? i dont remember. that and again, all the after-editing.
no, i dont remeber the site i used it was gif ninja, but here is the original output of one of them

Re: Newbie Sharing and feedback
You can make gifs in PS (photoshop) and PSD is the file that PS saves its files as. It retains all layers and details.
If you want to rip a time slot from a video and make a gif out of it, I found this handy program. (no watermark)
http://www.video-gif-converter.com/
Btw IK you use gimp but you can always use PS too ;D if Gimp uses the same principle with layers you can still just upload a gif and edit it.

Photoshop's very handy and has more features then GIMP does but you don't necessarily have to make the change. GIMP is a great beginners program and it's free for users who take interest into graphic designs.

Re: Newbie Sharing and feedback
I personally haven't used GIMP, but I am completely satisfied with PS and I don't even know how to use all of the features yet. It takes some time to learn what everything does and all (or maybe just me since I don't read tutorials). I think the majority of us here use PS if you want to use a similar program, but I'm not sure. I also know that Crazy tried GIMP but went back to PS. I'm not sure what he's up to now but that's the latest I heard.
Idk, its up to you haha.

Why not try using Photoshop CS2 first? Since it's 100% free and all... For me, I'm trying to use it... It's more different than Gimp as I expected...

Re: Newbie Sharing and feedback
I like the AVI you made with the exception of the rank title. The text looks like it was just places there. To me (and I could be wrong) it looks like the text didn't have anti-aliasing applied giving it a "rough" look. Thar or the font is messing with my head (hehe). Also if your looking on how to get Ps CS6, feel free to PM me and I can help you get it. CS6 is very different, but I've used gimp for about a year and I like PS much better. I also had a class for Ps in high school, though I'm nowhere near the level Crazy is at.

Re: Newbie Sharing and feedback
yea a problem i have with GIMP is its text system, theres no dropdown menu and i dont know what EVERY font looks like, or if the one used is even a default font so i kind of badly winged it, i saved the edit, so i can edit it at anytime casue, like you said, i liked it, but it felt...off, ill try PS as well.
i hope to be able to make something good one day, self taught. something i hope works for me as it does everything else is i can pick up almost anything quite quickly, but i dont think ill ever become as amazing at anything as others

Re: Newbie Sharing and feedback
I think looks pretty good for a first time. Text placement and font style is probably the hardest thing to grasp on. From my past experience with photoshop, a majority of the appearance of text is manipulation and placement of the text. Font styles are nice too but the most basic fonts like Arial, Century, etc. can look just as good even though it's plain.

this is my almost-done image, making it a .gif DESTROYED the quality, so i might just use it in the other way i was thinking
