Is language required for thought?

It's not required for thought. If we did not posses problem solving sills without language we would not be able to develop an understand and usage of it. As we are not born with a set language derived of word placement (verbal or otherwise).

On the other hand language is required in order to communicate, with prey, predator or peer. Be it a howl, chirp or a speech.
