Asteroids (1979)
Imagine it... the year is 1979... The Vietnam war has ended several years prior and the world is recovering from a brief economic recession. The United States President is Jimmy Carter and subsequently was attacked by a swimming rabbit while on a fishing trip. The Iran hostage crisis begins. NASA's first Skylab finishes its mission in orbit around the Earth and the Voyager I probe discovers rings around Juptier. The European Union holds its first parliamentary election, the first international election of its kind. The United States recognizes the existence of Marxist China and opens diplomatic relations with them. Pope John Paul II makes his first papal visit to the United States. The smallpox virus has been eradicated, the first virus successfully eradicated to date. Star Trek: The Motion Picture premiered and McDonalds introduces its happy meal for the first time. China's one child policy is introduced and the Soviets remain a threat to international security. It was on the end of one of the greatest social and economic revolutions in American history bringing progressive social values and women's liberation. It was before the out-sourcing of jobs and the computer revolution...
