bootmgr not found
here is the specs
http://www.asianic.com.ph/product/asus-k40ij-vx122r
heres what happend:
i wanted to do a full factory restore to my laptop as its full of unwanted programs (viruses xD). i inserted the disc that has the restore settings to an external dvdrom. after it loading, i clicked the full restore to whole drive then next next then a very big red "ERROR" text with a small "Unable to load Win***". i restarted my pc then boom that bootmgr keeps looping.
Things that i tried:
*i did the bios boot sequence thing like booting the CDROM first, still that error message
*used a win 7 installer. used 64bit and it worked once but on the wrong partition. when i do again what i did, it no longer works
SOLVED by installing win7 from another disc which now brings me to another question.
is there any way to obtain the product key for my laptop. well yes its at the bottom but the thing is its smudgy and i can no longer recognize the characters.

Re: bootmgr not found
Some possibilities:
>Your hard drive is failing, in which case you would need to obtain a new one
>Your system restore disc is damaged
>Your system restore disc is not configured properly for your PC
>You aren't using the wizard properly when attempting to restore the partition
Using a WinXP disc to fix it may only help with the last 2 scenarios. You could try using the XP disc's partition manager to delete all the partitions on your hard drive and then insert the system restore disc to try restoring again, though I think it's a slim chance that will actually work. Your best bet IMO is to try another disc. You may need to torrent an ISO of Windows 7 and burn a new disc if you can't obtain one. It has to be an OEM version though or else it won't work with your model (the product key on the back of your laptop is for OEM copies of Windows only, so don't download an MSDN or Retail ISO). You can just do a fresh reinstall of Windows using that disc.

Re: bootmgr not found
You don't need a crack because you have a legitimate product key already that you can use on the bottom side of your laptop. Just enter that key in when prompted with a standard OEM copy and you can install Windows just fine.Noobs wrote:updated my first post

Re: bootmgr not found
I have a program that can activate Win7. I used it on my old laptop when I upgraded to Win7 Ultimate and had problems activating it. I've also tried it on a VmWare'd Win7.
It's called 97Anakin. Here is a link to it from my 4share account: http://www.4shared.com/zip/YMscP2G4/Activator.html
(There are a couple programs that supposedly find product keys for programs as well as Win7's Product key)

PM me an image of your product key sticker. Perhaps I can make out some of the characters out. If you don;t want to that is fine by me too.

Re: bootmgr not found
Glad it worked out for you. Keep in mind though when you install from a regular Windows disc as opposed to the system restore disc provided by ASUS it's pretty barebones at first. Windows Media Player only comes with a handful of video/audio codecs and you won't have a lot of software that may have originally been included with your PC. In some cases you may even have some missing drivers for your hardware. The upside of this though is you can pretty much find free software solutions for nearly everything and additionally there is no useless software installed that you're never going to use and just slows down your system. If you need any help restoring some old functionality that you may have lost during the reformat just let me know.

Re: bootmgr not found
most things lost by using a barebones CD your better off without, all that HP/DEll/Gateway Bloatware is now gone and you will notice your computer running much smoother, you will be missing some codecs, but VLC has most of them installed already, but for functionality sake you should get the k-lite codec pack at the very least

I mention on how to get most video and audio codecs working for Windows Media Player
here:http://justdubsrefuge.omgforum.net/t438-downloading-almost-any-video-on-the-internet
Just go to where it mentions shark007

k-lite does the same, and from what i hear, its largest codec pack includes EVERYTHING, but most people wont need them

That's the name of the other! K-lite is supposedly a little easier to use but Shark007's I think has the same capabilities.
