So Disney has made their move. And Lucasarts is no more. We'll probably see some of the games they were making but not all of them. Not to mention the other things that are getting the axe(clone wars, possible music, tv shows).
I will always remember the games....(outcast, academy, podracer, kotor, battlefront etc)
So many feels right now.
DISNEY!!!!!!

I'm sure when the new Star Wars film comes out, and Star Wars is relevant again, that we may see some new games. Though for the time being, it seems like that's it. A shame, I thought 1313 looked decent.

Re: RIP Lucasarts

No seriously, LucasArts wouldn't know how to turn an easy profit if a huge sack of cash smashed through their window and spilled all over the floor. Every Star Wars fanatic and their grandma has been craving an HD sequel to Jedi Knight, Battlefront, and KOTOR for years now and instead of making one of the most obvious investments one could ever choose, what does LucasArts do? Why of course, Uncharted: Among Sith. Yeah, when we're currently in a sticky financial situation, let's go with the concept that NO ONE WANTED. BRILLIANT.
Also incoming HD remaster for PC as a result of this:
Mmmhmm, Kyouma is pleased.Martin Gaston, GameSpot wrote:Developer releases source code for 2002 game and 2003 sequel as a thank you to fans.
Developer Raven Software has released the source code to 2002's Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and its 2003 sequel Jedi Academy in response to LucasArts' closure.
The two games have been released as a thank you to the game's "persistently loyal fanbase."
"Raven is sad to hear about the closing of LucasArts today, we respected them and enjoyed working with them over the years," said Raven to Kotaku Australia in a statement.
"We wish the best for all the talented people who were let go and hope they find good work in studios in the industry.
"We loved and appreciated the experience of getting to make Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy for LucasArts. As a gift to the persistently loyal fanbase for our Jedi games and in memory of LucasArts, we are releasing the source code for both games for people to enjoy and play with."
No documentation or support is being provided alongside the source code.
Disney last night closed LucasArts after acquiring the company in October 2012. "After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games," said Disney in a statement.
In-development titles Star Wars: 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault were also reportedly cancelled, although there might be a glimmer of hope for Star Wars: 1313 as Disney is looking at bringing the game to market through an external publisher.
LucasArts' storied history saw the studio help define the adventure genre in the 90s, publishing titles like The Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, and Grim Fandango.

I'm trying to be positive here, but after seeing the image for star wars 1313 I just can't feel it. The negative side is flowing through me. Disney is officially moved onto a bad list.

Oh well, their best games were something of the past anyways. Their newer titles are unknown to me....

Star wars has been dead to me for a very long time.
Sure, they're still relevant but I think they've been all about making money and nothing else.

My guess is that Disney wants a monopoly for most of the entertainment industry.

LucasArts is only closing in-house development. They will still be publishing titles through third party developers.Wampa wrote:my hopes for battlefront 3 are ever decreasing

Lucasarts reminds me of ID software. Both companies had their day, it's time to move on. Someone else would pick up the pieces like always.
