Re: Google Fiber
free internet for the world? sounds AWSOME, a 300$ fee is nothing really in comparison to everything else out there.
even if the speed is about average, the plans they offer are reasonable, the citys are so limited though, but, with enough interest, im sure it will pick up, and when that happens, i bet you will see other providers starting to cut prices. hell, they already outsource 1/2 their stuff anyway, why they have to charge 70$ a month to run some data down a line is beyond me.
on the other hand its google, dont get me wrong, i love google, but...once they become an incremental part of everyones internet life...idk, it feels scary to have everything rest on the shoulders of 1 company

I think the, "Free service guaranteed for at least 7 years" part is interesting. as well as, "$300 construction fee (one time or 12 monthly payments of $25) + taxes and fees"

You would make a good lawyer with that eye.
Yeah you need to watch out for the details like that. Over all though if the fees and stuff aren't to bad it still seems like a pretty good deal. Free internet after paying $300 is pretty good and even if it only lasted 7 years that should still turn out cheaper than most other plans.... I think.

I can't help but wonder if those fees are related to usage. Like having basic internet is free after that $300 but if you start downloading anything or using up a certain amount of bandwidth with streaming and stuff then they might charge for that usage. I think the term "Free internet" technically only means they won't charge you to be connected.

Re: Google Fiber
For some perspective, $300 for 7 years of cable Internet comes out to roughly $42.86 a year, and a mere $3.57 a month compared to my local provider's current $30 a month. This is definitely a much better deal even assuming they no longer keep providing it free after 7 years. Also there's no data caps, so they won't charge you for too much bandwidth usage. I'd get started on Google's plan right away if I could, but unfortunately it's not available in my area yet.

Well that is good but I'm in the same pinch as you. In fact probably everyone on this forum is. Does anyone here live around there?

Not gonna lie, I saw the title of the thread and thought if they were releasing actual Google Fiber, as like a cereal or something.

So I wasn't the only one then.

Re: Google Fiber
Verizon FiOS looks more expensive than what Google offers, even with the priced monthly plan.
Verizon FiOS speeds are in Mbps
15 down / 5 up for 69.99
50 down / 25 up for 79.99
75 down / 35 up for 89.99
150 down / 65 up for 99.99
300 down / 65 up for 209.99
source
Google has a pretty good price, especially if you are able to get up to 1 Gbps from the 70 or 120 monthly price plans.
